Croak, by @ginadamico

Equal parts dearly departed television show Reaper and the film Sky High, Gina Damico, a local girl (at least to me) begins what is likely a series following Lexington (Lex) as she begins a career as a “Killer” (grim reaper, really). She has a scythe, a partner (Driggs, a Culler), a twin sister (Concord — get it? Lexington and Concord), parents who don’t know what to do with her, and something of a conscience (when “killing” — taking away the soul of someone who is dead — a murder victim, especially when the murderer is there, why not go all grim repeat on the murderer’s ass?). She’s also a legacy, following in the footsteps of her uncle, Mort, mayor of Croak, the town where grim reapers live, at least those reaping in the eastern part of the country.

When unscheduled deaths begin occurring, Lex and the other “junior” reapers decide to take matters into their hands and investigate, not knowing that the mystery will soon deepen and begin hitting much closer to home.

A slew of dead historical celebrities, a well-developed world in which souls are harvested and contained, and a slow-simmering romance round out what you’ll find when you scythe into Croak. Just be prepared to want to stay a while.
